Sensor Library
Sensors are the engine's senses. The control module can only act on what they report — which is why a bad sensor, or a bad ground behind one, imitates almost any mechanical fault.
MAF — Mass Air Flow Sensor
- What it measures
- Mass of air entering the engine
- Where it is
- Intake tract at or after the air box
- How the module uses it
- Primary input for calculating fuel delivery
- How to test it
- Compare live airflow data against expected values; inspect element; check for unmetered air leaks
Failure symptoms
- • Rough idle
- • Hesitation
- • Stalling
- • Poor economy
Connector pinoutVerification Required
VERIFY FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Connector pinout must be verified from wiring data.
Associated trouble codesVerification Required
VERIFY FOR YOUR VEHICLE
Trouble codes must be read from your truck and verified.
Never replace a sensor because a code names it — a code names the circuit, not the culprit. Check the wiring, connector and ground first, then test the sensor.
