Choose what the truck is actually doing. Each pathway lists what to check, in order of likelihood, and always tells you to test before replacing.

- 1. Start with the symptom, not with a part you suspect.
- 2. Answer the question that splits the problem in half.
- 3. Check the cheap, common and accessible things first.
- 4. Test before replacing anything — a test costs nothing compared with a wrong part.
- 5. Fix one thing at a time and re-check the symptom.
