Major Procedure

Engine Removal & Reinstallation

This is an overview of what must be disconnected and in roughly what order, not a step-by-step service procedure. Tick items as you go — your ticks are saved on this device.

Safety Warnings

  • An engine is heavy enough to kill. Never put any part of your body under a suspended engine.
  • Use a rated hoist and rated chains attached only at verified lifting points.
  • A/C refrigerant must be recovered by a qualified technician with proper equipment. Never vent it.
  • Relieve fuel pressure before opening any fuel connection, and keep all ignition sources away.
  • Support the vehicle on rated jack stands on level ground — never on a jack alone.
  • Photograph everything before you disconnect it. Photographs are the cheapest insurance in this job.
